TrailUK is built by a single developer for the UK green laning community. We collect only what we need to make the app work, and we never sell your data to third parties.
1. Who We Are
TrailUK is an iOS application developed and operated by Wayne Basson ("we", "us", "our"). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at trailuk.feedback@gmail.com.
2. What Data We Collect
Account Information
When you create a TrailUK account, we collect:
- Email address (used for login and account communications)
- Display name or username
- Optional profile information (club/group memberships, vehicle details)
Location Data
TrailUK uses your device's location to:
- Show lanes near you on the map
- Trigger hazard proximity alerts (within 200m of a known hazard)
- Record your trip route when you start a recording session
Location is only accessed while the app is open and actively in use. We do not track your location in the background without your knowledge. Trip recordings are stored in your account and visible only to you unless you choose to share them.
Trip and Activity Data
When you record a drive, we store:
- The route GPS data for the recorded trip
- Which lanes you have marked as driven
- Timestamps and date of drives
User-Submitted Content
You may submit:
- Condition reports and lane reports
- Hazard pin locations and descriptions
- Messages to other users via the in-app messaging feature
This content is stored in our database and, where relevant, may be visible to other users of the app.
Device and Usage Data
We do not use third-party analytics tools. We may collect basic technical information (such as app version and iOS version) to assist with support and debugging, but this is not linked to your identity.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To operate and maintain your account
- To provide core app features (map, trip recording, hazard alerts)
- To send account-related emails (e.g. password reset)
- To power the rank and progression system
- To enable social features such as friend connections and groups
- To improve the app based on how it is used
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a backend platform with row-level security enabled. This means database access is restricted so that each user can only access their own data, or data explicitly made public.
Passwords are never stored in plain text. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth using industry-standard practices.
We use Resend to send transactional emails such as password resets.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers.
Your data may be shared with:
- Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider
- Resend — our transactional email provider (receives your email address for sending account emails)
- Open-Meteo — weather data API (no personal data is sent; only your approximate location is used to fetch weather)
We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent for location access at any time via iOS Settings

7. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal purposes.
Trip recordings and activity data are retained until you delete them or request account deletion.
8. Children's Privacy
TrailUK is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us immediately.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
